Charleville Airfield Museum

The Museum is located in the old terminal building on the Charleville Airport, three kilometres from the town centre. The contents and the displays document the history of the airfield from its beginnings in the 1920’s to the present. The museum was commissioned by the airport owner, Murweh Shire Council, and was overseen by the board of the Charleville Airfield and WWII Museum Ltd.

Other interest members of the community were co-opted to provide further input, and to proof the content of the museum designed by Xzibit, the company contracted for this work. The installation of the static displays and audio-visual items was completed in November 2023.

The Council and working group have plans for the inclusion of historic local items in purpose-built display cabinets, with larger items to be displayed in the courtyard.

Members have individually been researching and documenting additional facts pertaining to the airfield history and of the people involved over the years. This website is intended to provide a repository for this and other relevant information.

As of September 2024, the Murweh Shire Council resumed management of the Museum, with input welcomed from Cherleville Airfield Museum P/L.
